The CPN is pleased to share news of a significant regional merger involving two long-established, independent Chartered Surveying practices.
Independent chartered surveyors and property experts SMC Brownill Vickers have announced a major acquisition, joining forces with Barnsley-based Smiths Chartered Surveyors. The merger further consolidates their position as one of the leading independently owned firms of Chartered Surveyors in South Yorkshire, enhancing their ability to deliver a truly comprehensive range of property services.
Both firms bring with them an impressive heritage. Sheffield-based SMC Brownill Vickers was established in 1884, while Smiths has served the Barnsley market since 1898. Together, the combined workforce offers unrivalled knowledge of the regional property market, ensuring clients continue to receive the highest levels of professional expertise, insight and advice.
A Stronger Regional Offering
The merger enhances the firm’s advisory capabilities and creates greater opportunities for clients across the region and beyond. The business will continue to trade as Smiths in Barnsley, with SMC Brownill Vickers’ existing Barnsley office relocating into Smiths’ established Regent Street premises.
Andrew Corbett will continue to lead the Barnsley office and commented:
“This merger is an exciting opportunity to bring together two respected firms of Chartered Surveyors with a shared commitment to quality and client service. By combining our expertise and teams, we are creating a business well positioned for long-term growth, whilst maintaining the personal service and professional standards our clients expect.”
Strategic Growth with National Reach
Robin Curtis will remain as Managing Director, highlighting the strategic importance of the move:
“This marks a significant step in our strategy to deepen our presence in Barnsley following our previous acquisition of Stanhope Property Consultants. It also strengthens our regional position without restricting our national capability. Clients across the country continue to benefit from our membership of The CPN.”
He added that Andrew and his team bring vast experience and a strong reputation, which the business is committed to building upon as the newly combined teams begin working together.
Shared Values, Enhanced Service
Both firms pride themselves on exemplary customer service, honest and accurate advice, and close client relationships. By combining their knowledge and increasing market share, the merged business is looking forward to delivering broader, more effective service offerings for clients of both organisations.
This merger represents another positive example of independent firms strengthening their regional presence while maintaining the professionalism, collaboration and national reach that define The CPN network.
